Mengatasi Print Spooler Service not Running

November 4th, 2009 aria Posted in Information Technology, Virus Removal No Comments »

1. klik start>run> ketik services.msc

Pesan error Print Spooler Service not Running memang menjengkelkan. Tapi setelah ketemu ternyata sangat mudah mengatasinya.he..he..he…

Share A Printer Online

November 4th, 2009 aria Posted in Information Technology No Comments »

“Is it possible to print over the Internet? Sometimes I’m working at home and would like to print directly to my office printer. Both computers are online, so it seems like it should be possible to print over the Internet. Can this be done?”

Printing Over the Internet

internet printingYes. There are a variety of ways you can remotely print through the Internet. One way to print via the Internet is to install IIS on the computer that’s connected to the printer. IIS (Internet Information Services) can be installed on computers running XP Professional Edition, and lets your machine act as a web server. IIS will list your connected printer on a web page that can be accessed by any internet-connected computer. Internet printing with IIS is not enabled by default, so will you have to manually enable it. IIS can be tricky to install and configure. It is permissions-sensitive and if you open up permissions too much, you may risk the security of your computer. For more help setting up internet printing with IIS, see this article from Win IT Pro.

Print Sharing Utilities

If you want simplicity, PrinterAnywhere lets you share your printer with other computers connected to the Internet. You can print directly from Microsoft Word, Outlook, a photo editor or any other program, to a printer connected to another computer. It takes care of all the security, networking details, potential firewall snafus, and Windows access rights. Another cool thing about Printer Anywhere, is that the remote computer attached to the printer does not need to have the program that the document was created in.

Print Where is another program that allows you to print over the Internet to a remote printer. Print Where is a solution aimed primarily at hotel, corporate, and university settings.

Remote Printing With IPP

Internet Printing Protocol is yet another method you can use to print across the Internet. It is platform-independent, so it can work with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. These articles about Mac OS X, Windows XP and IPP and
and Windows Vista Internet Printing will point you in the right direction to explore the possibilities of IPP.

Printing With Remote Desktop

Another option is to use Remote Desktop, a feature in built into Windows XP and Vista. You set up the computer that is connected to the printer you want to print to, so it will accept remote desktop connections. You have to create a user account to do this. Login to the Administrator account on your computer, then create the account from the Control Panel / Admin Tools / Computer Management / Local Users and Groups. Right click on the “Users” folder to create a new user and password. You then have to set up your computer to accept incoming connections. To do this go to Control Panel / System, then click the “Remote” tab. Check the box “Allow users to remotely connect to this computer” then click the “Select Remote Users” button. Select the user account you created in “Local Users and Groups”.

One note, if you have Windows firewall, or a third-party software or hardware firewall you will have to make sure that you enable remote desktop connections in the firewall. It’s easy with Windows Firewall, go to Control Panel / Windows Firewall, then select “Remote Desktop” under the “Exceptions” tab. If you have some other firewall, check the help documents or poke around in your favorite earch engine.

To connect to the computer you made available for remote connections, start Remote Desktop Connection. In XP, click Start / Run, enter MSTSC and press OK. You’ll need to know the IP address of the computer you set up for remote connections. On the remote computer, Click Start / Run, then enter the CMD /K IPCONFIG command, to get the IP address. (Note: If you have a home network with a router, the IPCONFIG command will probably show an IP address of 192.168.something. If so, you’ll need to login to the router to get the real IP address for the computer.) Enter the IP address into the Remote Desktop Connection window, then you’ll be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter the account name and password you created in the step above. You can then connect to the computer that is attached to your printer, just as if you were in front of it. You’ll have access to all the resources on that machine, including the printer.

One caution, once you allow remote connections to your computer, you do open it up to a certain level of vulnerability. I suggest that you rename the Administrator account in “Local Users and Groups” and disable the “Guest” account. Apple also offers a Remote Desktop solution in OS X, with a drag-and-drop function that allows you to move files between your host and remote computers. FreeNx and VNC are utilities that allow for remote connections with Linux.

NTLDR is Missing Error Resolution

October 10th, 2009 aria Posted in Information Technology No Comments »

Steps to Resolve the NTLDR is Missing Error in Windows XP

NTLDR Error Message

There are few different ways that the “NTLDR is missing” error may present itself, with the first listing being the most common:

  • “NTLDR is missing
    Press any key to restart”
  • “NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart”
  • “Boot: Couldn’t find NTLDR
    Please insert another disk”

The “NTLDR is missing” error displays very shortly after the computer is first started, immediately after the Power On Self Test (POST) is complete. Windows XP has only initially begun to load when the NTLDR error message appears.

Causes of NTLDR Errors

There are a number of possible causes for NTLDR errors, including the most common “NTLDR is missing” error message.

The most common reason for this error is when your PC is trying to boot from a hard drive or flash drive that is not properly configured to be booted from; in other words, it’s trying to boot from a non-bootable source. This also would apply to media on an optical drive or floppy drive that you’re trying to boot from.

Other possible causes include corrupt and misconfigured files, hard drive and operating system upgrade issues, corrupt hard drive sectors, an outdated BIOS, and damaged or loose IDE cables.

Fixes for NTLDR Errors

  1. Restart the PC. The NTLDR error could be a fluke.
  2. Check your floppy and optical (CD/DVD) drives for media. Often times, the “NTLDR is Missing” error will appear if your PC is trying to boot to a non-bootable floppy disk or CD/DVD.

Note: If you find that this is the cause of your problem and it’s happening a lot, you might want to consider changing the boot order in BIOS so the hard drive is listed first.

  3. Check the hard drive and other drive settings in BIOS and ensure they are correct. The BIOS configuration tells the computer how to use a drive so incorrect settings can cause problems, including NTLDR errors.

Note: There is usually an Auto setting for hard drive and optical drive configurations in BIOS which is usually a safe bet if you’re not sure what to do.

  4. Restore the NTLDR and ntdetect.com files from the Windows XP CD. Restoring these two important system files from the original Windows XP CD may do the trick.
  5. Repair or replace the boot.ini file. This will prevent the NTLDR error if the cause of the problem is a boot.ini file that is not configured properly for your Windows XP installation.
  6. Write a new partition boot sector to the Windows XP system partition. If the partition boot sector has become corrupt or isn’t properly configured, you may receive the “NTLDR is Missing” error.
  7. Repair the Windows XP master boot record. NTLDR error messages may also appear if the master boot record is corrupt.
  8. Reseat all internal data and power cables. NTLDR error messages could be caused by loose or malfunctioning IDE cables.

Try replacing the IDE cable cable if you suspect it might be faulty.

  9. Update your motherboard’s BIOS. Occasionally, an outdated BIOS version can cause the “NTLDR is Missing” error.
  10. Perform a repair installation of Windows XP. This type of installation should replace any missing or corrupt files. Continue troubleshooting if this does not resolve the issue.
  11. Perform a clean installation of Windows XP. This type of installation will completely remove Windows XP from your PC and install it again from scratch. While this will almost certainly resolve any NTLDR errors, it is a time consuming process due to the fact that all of your data must be backed up and then later restored.

If you can’t gain access to your files to back them up, understand that you will lose them all if you continue with a clean installation of Windows XP.

  12. Replace the hard drive and then perform a new installation of Windows XP. If all else has failed, including the clean installation from the last step, you’re most likely facing a hardware issue with your hard drive.

NTLDR Errors Apply To

This issue applies to the Windows XP operating system, including Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition. Windows 7 and Windows Vista do not utilize NTLDR.

Optimizing Your Google AdSense Pages

Optimizing Your Google AdSense Pages

Introduction

Running Google AdSense on your article website is a quick and easy way to generate revenue for your writing efforts. We’ve been using Google AdSense on many sites running our article manager, ArticleLive, both for testing and for real life revenue generation. We found after some testing and research that there were various techniques we could implement to optimize our AdSense ad’s and increase revenue. Today I’m going to share some of my favorite strategies.

My first suggestion is to read Googles list of tips and tricks for optimizing Google AdSense:
https://www.google.com/AdSense/support/bin/static.py?page=tips.html

If you’re running a forum, here’s a quick list of tips direct from Google:
http://AdSense.blogspot.com/2005/10/six-AdSense-optimization-tips-for.html

Positioning

First and foremost, where you place your ad’s makes a huge direct difference in visibility of the ad, and therefore increases your chance of getting clicks. While some people stress that your ad’s should be highly visible upon first visit, i.e. top of the page, in some cases having your ad’s placed at the END of your article can actually increase click thru’s. Let’s say our article is a review of a specific digital camera, the Cannon IXUS 800 IS. (Incidentally, I love this camera and lost mine overseas).

When a user visits my site to read my review he or she is most likely going to read the article before clicking on any ad’s. It’s the reason they came to my site in the first place. By positioning my ad’s directly after my article on the same page I know my visitor has finished reading my article and may be ready to take action. An ad that offers a cheap price for the same camera I’m reviewing is now highly likely to get clicked on, especially if my review has been a positive one.

Try various ad placements. Tweak and test until you find something that works for you.

Look and Feel

Your AdSense ad’s should blend into the look and feel of your web site. Make suer you use the same font type, size and color so advertisements don’t look like ad’s. On the other hand, sometimes visitors become ad blind so you need them to stand out. Again, test, test, test.

As I mentioned above, if you place your ad’s at the end of the article there’s a good chance your visitor will click on them. Keeping their style consistent with the rest of your page will make them appear as normal links, and therefore your visitors wont get scared off and think that the only reason you wrote the article is so they click on the ad.

Increase Relevancy

Google uses what we call robots to scan your web page to locate the best ad’s to serve. If Google does a poor job of recognizing your articles topic then the ad’s it displays will not be highly relevant. Improving the relevance of the ad’s displays means improving the probability that your readers will find interest in an advertisement and click on it.

There are a few things you should do to increase relevance. Firstly, use descriptive headings and try to be specific. For example, if you’re writing a review about a Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera, then your title should look something like: “Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera Review”. As obvious as it seems, some people tend to forget this and use less relevant headings such as IXS 800 Review.

Be sure to include the topic of the article in the page title as well as adding a detailed meta description and meta keywords. Keep them as focused as possible, using similar keywords found throughout your web page. Adding alt tags to your images can also help. For example, an image of the camera could have an alt tag of: “Canon IXS 800 Digital Camera Picture” and you could even add a descriptive caption to the image.

Cater to Niche Topics

Targeting niche topics instead of general ones will result in two distinct benefits. First, your natural search engine competition is reduced dramatically. You get more targeted visitors interested in your niche topic, who will be shown more relevant ad’s, resulting in higher click rates.

Let’s take our digital camera website as an example. If I was to write a generic article about digital cameras I’d be competing with thousands if not millions of competitors. My Google Ad’s would be generic and the chance that my visitors will click on these ad’s is significantly reduced. On the other hand, however, by catering to a specific, targeted topic, I decrease my natural search competition, I increase my relevance both with visitors and ad’s and increase the likelihood of an ad click.

Use Correct File Names

The file name used for your web page is extremely important to Google AdSense and the ad’s that it shows. Using a simple test on my desktop PC, I created 2 blank HTML files with different names and added the Google AdSense code, nothing else. The first one, playstation-games.html showed these ad’s:

digital-cameras.html showed these ad’s:

There was absolutely no other content in those files and the files were located on my desktop, so Google could not scan my web page for content.

Filtering Non Relevant Ad’s

With all the technical prowess of the Google robots, they can get it wrong. If your site is displaying totally irrelevant ad’s in relation to your websites content then there’s something wrong with your site. It could be that the robots are having a hard time crawling the site, or maybe the way your web page has been coded makes it hard for the robots to tell what topic the page is about. If the majority of the time, however, the ad’s are relevant but some irrelevant ones are still showing, then its time to start filtering.

By monitoring the ad’s on your site you can take a list of the domains of URL’s that don’t match the topic you are targeting, then, inside your Google AdSense account you can add this list of domains to your “Competition Filter”. By doing so, Google will stop showing ad’s from those domains.

Rotating Colors

Sometimes regular visitors to websites become accustomed to ad’s and their brain filters them out. We call this ad blindness. If you know your site gets a lot of repeat visitors you could test automatically rotating color schemes for your ad’s.

Color rotation is supported by Google and lets AdSense automatically rotate through 4 different color variations of ad’s so your ad’s have a higher chance of being noticed by repeat visitors.

Add More Content

The more content you have on your website, the more ad’s you can display. Having more content also means more pages listed in search engines and more pages for your visitors to browse through, meaning more website traffic. The more ad’s you can display, the higher the chance of a click thru.

Testing

You should constantly test and tweak your website for better ad revenue and click thrus. By comparing different ad types for different periods or on different pages you can determine which ad’s work better for your site. In saying this however, it’s best to test for a short period of time, optimize and move on. Spend your time creating rich, valuable content rather than optimizing for better click thrus. In the long term, great content always wins in generating more traffic to your site, which in turn generates more click thrus to the ad’s and puts more money in your pocket.

Conclusion

There are plenty of other ways to optimize your ad’s and I’ll be writing about them in future tutorials. For now though, use what I’ve taught you in this article to better position your ad’s, testing placement, colors and ad sizes. You never know which little tweak might result in an increase of clicks.

Protect yourself from Conficker

The Conficker worm is a computer worm that can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction.

What does the Conficker worm do?
To date, security researchers have discovered the following variants of the worm in the wild.

•Win32/Conficker.A was reported to Microsoft on November 21, 2008.
•Win32/Conficker.B was reported to Microsoft on December 29, 2008.
•Win32/Conficker.C was reported to Microsoft on February 20, 2009.
•Win32/Conficker.D was reported to Microsoft on March 4, 2009.
•Win32/Conficker.E was reported to Microsoft on April 8, 2009.
Win32/Conficker.B might spread through file sharing and via removable drives, such as USB drives (also known as thumb drives). The worm adds a file to the removable drive so that when the drive is used, the AutoPlay dialog box will show one additional option.

The Conficker worm can also disable important services on your computer.

In the screenshot of the Autoplay dialog box below, the option Open folder to view files — Publisher not specified was added by the worm. The highlighted option — Open folder to view files — using Windows Explorer is the option that Windows provides and the option you should use.

If you select the first option, the worm executes and can begin to spread itself to other computers.

How does the Conficker worm work?
Here’s an illustration of how the Conficker worm works.

How do I remove the Conficker worm?
If your computer is infected with the Conficker worm, you may be unable to download certain security products, such as the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool or you may be unable to access certain Web sites, such as Microsoft Update. If you can’t access those tools, try using the Windows Live safety scanner.
